Factory Records, the Hacienda club, Tony Wilson, Happy Mondays, etc, etc. '24 Hour Party People' is an affectionate and humorous trip through Manchester's monster music scene in the 80s and 90s. The soundtrack as you'd expect is blinding and Steve Coogan's portrayal of Wilson is spooky. A film that stands on it's own as an excellent near tragi-comedy, but within its historical context... it's bloody mad!

'9' is a toy living in a desolate post-apocalyptic future who allies with some ragtag straw dolls in order to defeat The Beast, a giant stalking mechanical cat. Godard's hugely influential debut went on to inspire a new wave of French cinema and this is the film which epitomised the iconoclasm of the early Nouvelle Vague. Belmondo is the hip gangster, modelled on Bogart, whose escapades, including shooting a cop, leave him and his girlfriend on the run from both the cops and his enemies. The insolent casual style and cool moods make this the ultimate film noir.

Madonna doesn't try to steal the show and consequently this turns out to be an excellent film. In 1943, with the males away fighting, The All American Girls' Professional Baseball League was formed to keep the National Baseball League running. Hanks is the real star as the cynical manager/coach who learns to love his team. A comic and touching story highlighting many of the contradictions that working women face. High slush factor. find out more...
