Chow Mo Wan is a man whose painful past has left him wary of love. Now committed only to a lack of commitment, Chow embarks on a series of affairs that promise to fulfil little more than his carnal desire. The majority of Chow's passion is devoted to his Science Fiction novel, a tale of characters travelling on a train to the future in order to reclaim their past. Set in the 1960s and following on from Wong Kar-Wai's passionate but ephemeral ‘In The Mood For Love', 2046 is a ravishing tale of lo find out more...

From the director of ‘Swimming Pool' and ‘8 Women' this tale follows the disintegration of a thoroughly modern couple's marriage..but in reverse, beginning with the divorce and ending with their first meeting. A cleverly executed and intriguing premise, 5 Times 2, despite its generous critical acclaim, left me cold, perhaps a homage to French new wave cinema that my simple mind has always failed to fully grasp. find out more...

Coining the new term 'action noir' in Korea, director Kim Ji-woon follows up his extraordinary features A Quiet Family and A Tale Of Two Sisters with this blackly comic thriller. When Kang suspects that his beautiful young mistress Hee-soo might be messing around with another man, he enlis find out more...

Godard's hugely influential debut went on to inspire a new wave of French cinema and this is the film which epitomised the iconoclasm of the early Nouvelle Vague. Belmondo is the hip gangster, modelled on Bogart, whose escapades, including shooting a cop, leave him and his girlfriend on the run from both the cops and his enemies. The insolent casual style and cool moods make this the ultimate film noir.

The exploration of the enormity of life when a recently deceased ghost returns to his house to try and reconnect with his wife. Made on a shoe string and in secret, it is a hypnotic observation of life and time after we die and it achieves to visually convey the psychological weight of certain death and that life will continue once we're gone. The people sitting next to me left the cinema about 20 minutes in because it is indeed a very slow moving film and I can understand why they left but t find out more...

Sabine, a young arts student, is fed up with her place as mistress to a married man and decides to get herself hitched. Her friend Clarisse suggests a prime candidate to her in the form of the eligible Edmond and the misguided Sabine sets her heart on, excuse me, taking him up the aisle. Edmond isn't easily convinced that he's the sort of guy who'll get married though. This simply plotted movie provides Rohmer with enough of an opportunity for some great dialogue exploring the nature of marriage find out more...
