CAN DVD (2003)

CertificationE Our Rating

Documentary evidence that the enormous influence of German music doesn't begin and end with Kraftwerk. The main attractions on this two discer are a live performance from 1972 by the golden Can line up featuring vocalist Damo Suzuki and an excellent documentary spanning the bands career which includes TV appearances on The Old Grey Whistle Test and Top of the Pops. Its a shame that most of the other 'special features' amount to a load of text biographies but the (very) short film by Brian Eno is find out more...

The rock bands rock band, Led Zeppelin have influenced just about every guitar heavy pop group (both the great and the grim) since their spectacular rise to super stardom at the beginning of the 1970s. This double disk compilation features lovingly restored, previously unseen footage from the Royal Albert Hall in 1970 up to what would prove to be their final UK concerts at Knebworth in 1979 and as it is produced by the great Jimmy Page you just know its a blinder; Though curiously 'Stairway To H find out more...

The Mighty Floyd invade the archaeological haven of Pompeii and raise psychadelic hell in the ampitheatre! Rock! This 1972 documentary film battles through the ever-present haze of pretentiousness that surrounds the band to give a creative portrayal of what the Floyd are 'about' in their live shows. A fuss free but simple and spell-binding live performance from arguably the most important and influential band of the last decade. While this set was shot in '94, catching the band only two albums in to their career (before the astonishing OK Computer and thoroughly "indie" in demeanour) everything that makes them soooo damn good is already well in evidence. Fans of the 'rock concert shot as art film' may well be frustrated by this production's straight forward approach, and there's no immense find out more...

The Filth and the Fury is the last in a long line of documentaries on the Sex Pistols and is the best. Bromley's finest are shown in a sympathetic light whilst their infamous manager Mr Maclaren is shown up to be the cad he really was. During their regretablely short, but prehaps inevitably so, 26 month career the Pistols became the ultimate in media scapegoats whilst rising to near god like status amongst their hordes of fans. This film is a must for fans as well as the new generation who have find out more...

The Dark Side of the Moon remained on bestseller charts for nearly 14 years, ensuring that the contents of the album permeated the cultural consciousness to the same degree as it's classic sleeve art. Recent years have even seen the album blessed with its own urban myth, tying its lyrical concepts to the classic movie The Wizard of Oz (start the album off at the MGM lion's third roar at the beginning of said movie and see how many 'coincidences' occur...)Here the album's origins and enduring imp find out more...
