On the constantly volatile border between North and South Korea, a wounded soldier struggles back across no man's land and into the arms of his southern colleagues; two dead North Korean infantrymen a testament to his injury. Lauded as a hero it gradually becomes clear all is not as it seems and the soldier in question may have had far darker motives than his superiors are prepared to believe. Joint Security Area is an intriguing drama thriller, though it pales in comparison to the director's later work of genius, ‘Old Boy'.
