Friendless Max is having a pretty miserable time, his mother's paying more attention to her boyfriend and older sister Claire and her mates are a pain in the butt. So, dressed in his wolf costume, he whisks himself away to a wondrous imaginary world where the wild things live. The locations are real, the photography top notch, the costumes are costumes (some CGI juggling with facial expressions apart), the fantastical wild ones a bunch of immature adolescents, who need the nurturing guidance of Max, and, bar the cod psychology in the family relationships bit, this adaptation of Maurice Sendak's seminal book is an overriding success.
Caveat; young children may get bored or possibly frightened.
