Gentle natured high school drop out Dean works for a removal company and while relocating a frail widower into a retirement home, spots Cindy, who, through charming persistence, he eventually wins over. This however is not where the heart of the film lies, the majority of 'Blue Valentine' is set six years later and is a tale about the death of love not its fruition; a hauntingly perceptive and beautifully moving observation of two people who can no longer share the same life. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling are agonisingly believable in this understated emotional tour de force.
