Inspired by actual events, The Whistleblower centres around Kathy Bolkovac (Rachel Weisz) a Nebraskan police officer who takes a job working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her initial optimism, of helping to rebuild a devastated country, is dashed when she discovers that amidst the eschewing social and political chaos a culture of corruption and opportunism has taken hold.
Most concerning of all, there appears to be a network of human trafficking that everyone seems to be turning a blind eye to.
Whistleblower is a taut, intelligent, sometimes graphic drama that shocks by virtue of its basis in fact.
Excellent.
