This is the best of the recent Vietnam films and certainly one of the best war films ever. Brutal and black, realistic and terrifying, it portrays the systematic dehumanization of training and the resulting horror of actual war. Unreservedly acclaimed by the critics, this masterpiece must be seen.

HAMBURGER HILL (1987)
Certification18 Our Rating
Of all the 1980s rash of Vietnam movies, this was the simplest, bloodiest and most action-packed. Based on the true story of the assault on a well-fortified NVA position, Hill 937, this was a bloody, pointless and suicidal event which created near mutiny in the American ranks as their bodies littered the hill. Like a harrowing remake of 'The Sands of Iwo Jima'.

Oliver Stone's autobiographical account of life at the front in Vietnam deservedly swept the Oscars. It is particularly strong in portraying the tensions within the army social group between the brutal all-American rednecks and the more liberally inclined cynics.

The Vietman war is setting for this tight horror thriller about a team of soldiers who are sent on a search and rescue mission after a radio transmission is received from a unit sent in 6 months previously and presumed missing. The mission becomes far more complex when the soldiers find themselves under threat from an unseen and deadly enemy. Though with the odd tacky moment, and some moments of banal behaviour, this movie is full of little suprises and very creepy, with a very taut sense of psc

The story of three steel workers caught up in the Vietnam war. Concentrates as much on the shattering effect on their families as much as on the conflict itself. This emotionally charged movie kicked off America's self-examination of this shameful episode in it's history. Stunningly powerful. Won Best Picture at 1978 Academy Awards.
