A strange, beautiful film. We watch mother and son as they go about their peculiar daily routine, and we see a dead child in the ocean. It's unnerving and, somehow, everything seems eerily sexual, too. Then we are invited to go underwater where we get a closer look at the strange story science and earth have to tell. Roald Dahl's story about a poor boy who wins a trip round a magic chocolate factory and, like all Dahl stories, this is a moral tale with a distincly dark side to it. Gene Wilder is wonderfully cynical and sadistic as Mr Wonka and some of the sets are very psychedelic. This film is a lighter semi-musical version of the book - great for the kids. find out more...
