A tragic accident brings three unlikely people together, all already dealing with a past deeply scarred by their own misdemeanours or the vagaries of fate. Obsession, revenge, loneliness, and redemption are all themes dealt with in Inarritu's English language debut, a remarkably powerful and deeply effecting drama, 21 Grams is a grimly beautiful film, carried along by three spellbinding performances. find out more...

Set in Orange County, California, in an age where America has lost its ‘war on drugs', a reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, the consequence of which is a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode and even your own motives become unclear. Scanner Darkly is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K Dick and born of his own experiences. Like a graphic novel come to life, the film uses live action pho find out more...

Set against the backdrop of an elite American East Coast prep school, protagonist Robert is an apathetic teenager who seems interested only in YouTube-esque videos of either babies, kittens, pornography or violent acts. When Robert takes part in the school's AV club he unexpectedly captures a traumatic event that will irreversibly alter the lives of everyone at his school. Far from ‘easy viewing', 'Afterschool' is an intense, intelligent and provocative account of one boy's conflicted and trou find out more...

"American Honey is a wind-through-your-hair sort of picture with, you might argue, too many literal shots of wind going through hair, as this posse hitch rides to and fro, devoting their days to a door-to-door sales mission before rendezvousing nightly and resuming the party. You could also argue that this almost intentionally exhausting film is too much of a good thing. B find out more...

The lives of teenage junkies and bickering old people in a small Cotswold town are revealed in this series of interconnected vignettes about the complexity of love, life, youth and the vulnerabilities of old age. The pace of life is slow and the dialogue sparse in this critically acclaimed example of a new wave of British Indie cinema. find out more...

During the marijuana bonanza, a violent decade that saw the origins of drug trafficking in Colombia, Rapayet and his indigenous family get involved in a war to control the business that ends up destroying their lives and their culture.
This film was not what I expected. And I mean that in the most positive way possible. What I expected was another rehashing of the Colombian drug cartel wars / gun fights / Pablo Escobar type stuff, and while there is certainly s find out more...

'Baby Bogart' or 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'? Young teens act out the roles of our classic noir favourites, Sam Spade et al, against a backdrop of a daylight open-spaced LA suburbia. The characters are there, the script is there, the critics loved it and you, the viewers, rave about it. Sorry, but I just can't buy young high school kids acting out these roles.....ergo the answer is 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'...but please make your own mind up. find out more...
BULLHEAD (2011)

Based on the true story of the murder of Karel van Noppen, this hard-hitting drama from Belgium stars Rust and Bone's Matthias Schoenaerts as a young cattle farmer approached by an unscrupulous veterenarian to make an illicit deal with a notorious beef trader. Michaël R. Roskam's muscular direction and an outstanding performance from Schoenaerts both render this one of the year's very best dramas.

Eight-year-old Zachary has, so far, enjoyed life as his father's favourite son, as the possessor of a gift for healing and as younger sibling to a tearaway, a jock and a bookworm, but this relatively idyllic childhood in Québec is cast under the shadow of his dad's suspicions when he is discovered wearing a dress. Seven years on it's 1975 and Zac is in thrall to Ziggy Stardust and his cousin's boyfriend, a confusing situation for him, made more complicated by a history of trying to satisfy his d find out more...
