It's April 1st 1982 and with the Argentinean invasion of the Falklands imminent Major Mike Norman is dispatched with 70 Royal Marines to secure the Island. Unfortunately Sir Rex Hunt, the Governor, has not been fully informed and prepares the islanders for battle, so initiating a tragic error of judgement. Cinematic maestro Federico Fellini shows that, even in his mid-sixties, he had lost none of his power to shock, entertain and amaze with this `comedy of arias'. The film is set on the eve of the WWI, but this matters little find out more...
BAARIA (2009)

Giuseppe Tornatore directed this grand-scale portrait of life and love over several decades in the small town in Sicily where he was born. We see a number of important historical events through the eyes of young Peppino, watching the fortunes of his town and his family rise and fall. While open to accusations of nostalgia, superficiality and indulgence the film is something of a feast for the senses.
A rambunctious family saga the kind they don't, and probably shouldn't, make any more. find out more...

What Ray Elwood lacks in devotion to his flag he more than makes up for in devotion to his own well being. As a sergeant in the American army stationed in Germany, Ray has cornered the blackmarket in just about everything, but when a new sergeant moves into the base to clean things up, it would appear Ray's easy street is about to be closed for some major resurfacing. Buffalo Soldiers is a dark, pacey, and at times ludicrous satire, with a repugnant anti-hero, whose only redeeming feature is tha find out more...
CATCH-22 (1970)

Certification15 Our Rating

Adapted from the classic, absurdist, anti-war novel by Joseph Heller. "Catch-22" is the story of Yossarian, a pilot who trys to opt out of flying bombing missions by being declared insane, the catch being that anyone trying to avoid bombing missions by being insane must be sane. This dark classic catches much of the flavour of the book, the insanity, the corruption and the absurdity of war. Think MASH, but non-linear - flawed but awesome. find out more...

Charlie Wilson is a fairly unorthodox congressman, devoted as he is more to having a good time than the machinations of politics, but much to his surprise, and with a sharp shove from a past love, Charlie finds a passion that doesn't involve his own pleasure; helping Afghanistan fight the invading Russians through covert American funding. Considering the present situation in Afghanistan and the light hearted nature of this film Charlie Wilson's War would seem a doomed enterprise but the script i find out more...
CHI-RAQ (2015)

Certification15 Our Rating

Lee returns to his previous polemic and fine filmmaking form with Chi-Raq, a musical-comedy satire about the cycle and effects of violence and gun crime on black communities in America. The story is all Lysistrata (Aristophanes); women withhold sex from men in the hopes of making them stop using violence against each other. It's far from politically correct, not nearly as find out more...
