Friendship is put to the test in this story of love and loyalty in Hell's Kitchen, New York. Alison Folland plays Claude, the skateboarding teenager who slowly comes out as gay in a homophobic urban environment. Her feelings are confused by her best friend Ellen who sinks deeper into drug abuse and self destruction. When there's a murder in the neighbourhood, Claude has to choose between loyalty for Ellen or her own instincts. A coming-of-age film debut by Alex Sichel.

In the build-up to the 1972 US elections, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward investigated what seemed to be a minor break-in at the Democratic Party headquarters, the editor of the Post was prepared to run with the story and assigned Woodward and Carl Bernstein to it. Their painstaking research found the trail leading higher and higher in the Republican Party and, eventually, into the White House itself and led to the downfall of Nixon. Bit of an oddity, this one. Ostensibly made for TV, Angels In America has a distinctly cinematic aesthetic that belies its ambitions to surpass its medium. Like Six Feet Under and to a lesser extent, '24', the series could easily play as a movie if not for its gargantuan running time (this one clocks in at 6 hours...). Possibly Allen's best picture, this won 4 Oscars when it was released and follows the "nervous" romance of Alvy, a comedian, and Annie, a singer. Reputedly based on Allen and Keaton's real-life romantic-comedy it is a satire of social mores from LA to California, and discusses a bit of life, the universe, et al.
