Sarah dreams of becoming a ballerina, but the death of her mother finds her moving to the deprived South Side of Chicago and living with her estranged dad. One of the few white faces in a predominately black neighbourhood Sarah feels uncomfortable until she is befriended by Chenille and her brother Derek.
