Narrated via the memoirs of Captain Charles Ryder while stationed at the Brideshead Castle during WWII, we follow his increasingly intense, confused relationship with the aristocratic Flyte family and in particular brother and sister Sebastian and Julia. An impressive if slightly pointless cinematic adaptation of Waugh's classic much better done in the epic television drama.

Dirk Bogarde is an ageing gay man who fantasises whistfully about a young boy who is in the same hotel on the Lido. A revealing tale as much about old age grieving for lost youth as it is about obsession and homosexuality.
