BEOWULF (2009)

The legend of Beowulf, the bravest of the brave, a fearless warrior of such skill that his name has become myth. When Beowulf is called by the king of the Viking lands to rid the people of the monster Grendel our hero duly obliges, but even he may be no match for Grendel's lethal, temptress of a mother. I have one small question...why!? I'm sure 'performance capture' computer imagery is the future of movies, but frankly it still needs quite a bit of work, the humans are plastic characterless cre find out more...

An updated (and somewhat revised) version of the Anglo-Saxon legend with Beowulf coming to the aid of his friend and ally King Hrothgar whose kingdom is under siege from the maurading troll, Grendel. An entertaining tale of vengeance, loyalty and mercy whose use of real locations and unadulterated actors may well offer a more satisfying experience for those viewers disillusioned by the CGI-laden extravaganza Beowulf. find out more...

The last in Pasolini's trilogy, after 'The Decameron' and 'The Canterbury Tales', is a series of interlinked tales from the ancient Middle Eastern classic. 'Arabian Nights' is a truly lush and lusty version of the original folk stories revolving around slaves, kings, demons, love, betrayal, loss and appeasement. find out more...

'La Bete' is a gloriously over the top reworking of the Beauty and the Beast myth, dark, twistedly humorous and sexually obsessed tale, very silly… very saucy. find out more...

TANGLED (2010)

CertificationPG Our Rating

Disney's 50th full-length animated feature film is a twist on the Rapunzel fairy tale played as a comedy adventure. On her 18th birthday Rapunzel escapes from her tower with the help of a charming rogue and so begins the adventure she’s been waiting for.
'Tangled' is a likeable Disney musical, don’t expect Pixar sophistication in the story or script, but for the littlun’s it should do nicely. find out more...

Disney's superb cartoon version of Hans Christian Andersen's famous tale of a beautiful mermaid, who longs to become human after falling in love with a prince whom she saves from drowning. Great animation, especially the underwater scenes, some fun singalong songs, at long last Disney began to recognize the importance of pop in children's movies. All in all a lot better than some of Disney's immediately preceding kids' films. find out more...
