Charlie Kaufman is a screen writer struggling to adapt Susan Orlean's best selling novel "The Orchid Thief". As he tries to get to grips with his work Charlie must also deal with his twin brother/alter ego(?) Donald, a problem compounded by the gradual but seamless blending of reality and fiction. A surreal tale which defies the imagination of us mere mortals, Adaptation is an intelligent, crackingly performed, hilarious and perceptive flick, Spike Jonze's second feature lacks the "you what!!?"

Possibly Allen's best picture, this won 4 Oscars when it was released and follows the "nervous" romance of Alvy, a comedian, and Annie, a singer. Reputedly based on Allen and Keaton's real-life romantic-comedy it is a satire of social mores from LA to California, and discusses a bit of life, the universe, et al.

The horror of war is stripped naked in a surreal twilight world. Hardened cynic Bogart softens when he meets old flame Bergman who is now a refugee in neutral wartime Casablanca. Together they outwit the Germans... and of course there's that famous song. Watch this classic or some day you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...

America does Bruce Lee, who is sent to investigate a private army on a desert island. This features the famous final fight sequence in the hall of mirrors. Legend has it that during one fight scene his flying kick was too fast to be captured at 24 frames per second, forcing the camera man to film in slow motion in order to make it look real! Ouch!

For those of you not in the know this is a brilliant satire on a bunch of totally cynical New Labour twats, incompetent elected officials and a bunch of muddling bureaucrats. Capaldi is superb, as the PM's foul mouthed attack dog enforcer (Alistair Campbell), as our politicians conspire with both hawks and doves in Washington in the fumbling build-up to a major war to grab oil in the Middle East.
