BLADE (1998)

Wesley Snipes may well be the only bloke in the world who could successfully pull off the roll of an ass-kicking, law-enforcing vampire hero, but he manages it with bucketloads of charisma in this entertaining nonsense. It helps that his character, a genuine member of the undead, looks great in black leather as he stalks the streets on a mission to stop Stephen Dorff, a jumped-up, man-made vampire, from unleashing Armageddon on mankind. Action packed, with some spectacular fights, and very styli find out more...

Blade is back, but this time his enemy is not the noble league of vampire but a viscous new sub-breed that desires the destruction of the world from which it was spawned. The second half of Tarantino's homage to Honk Kong Chinese action movies, preposterous 70's TV, martial art, Manga... (I could go on, but you get the drift) is slightly more gobby than Kill Bill Vol I - which with a Tarantino script can only be a good thing. The resurrected Bride is considerably closer to wish fulfilment, having offed nearly half of her former colleagues in the first film, the opportunity to slash Bill a new orifice is looking good, and if there's one thing she doesn't lack, it' find out more...

Young Ting is a gifted master of Muay Thai and adored by his village, but when the village's sacred Buddha is robbed of its head he volunteers to head off to Bangkok to regain it. Enlisting the help of a comical, but morally dubious, former fellow villager.......well that's quite enough plot. The stunts in the first chase, running through the streets of Bangkok, are truly awesome, and the tuk-tuk chase scene is a hilarious variety on the Hollywood car chase. The film is often very funny but it's find out more...

Zatoichi it ain't, but there is still some fun to be had with this hyper-kinetic kung-fu zombie splatterfest. The story involves two escaped convicts who rendevous with a group of yakuza and their female captive on the edge of the Forest of Resurrection, the 444th of 666 portals between this world and the Other Side.
