Keeping it modern, but taking the man with more lives than an over-subscribed cattery back to his beginnings, we follow the suave thug-in-a-suit as he earns his ‘00' licence to kill status. This Bond is one mean hard-arsed mother and it's nice to see him played by an actor who looks like he can genuinely run without a group of nervous paramedics circling just out of camera shot. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it's brooding, brutal, dark and replete with some great action sequences, but, as my

The 1980s; an innocent young South African is arrested and, along with his family, tortured. Angered by these events he becomes what he was falsely accused of, an ANC terrorist/freedom fighter. Based on a true story, Catch A Fire is a searing, adrenalin-drenched, dramatic thriller.

CHANGING LANES (2002)

Two drivers have a prang in the morning traffic, one is a young lawyer the other a stressed business man. What should involve little more than an exchange of details develops into a grim and relentless feud as the two protagonists begin an increasingly deadly game of cat and mouse. Changing Lanes is as much a drama as it is a thriller, concentrating as it does on the motivation of the characters' actions to the same degree as the actions themselves. A tense and entertaining movie that falls shor

CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE (2009)
Certification18 Our Rating
Our hero, repeating his role as the villainous London wide boy Chev, stomps his way round LA looking for the dastardly sod who has nicked his heart and replaced it with a battery run pump that needs regular high-level external electric boosts to keep functioning. A fine, darkly comic, over-the-top, non-stop, action flick, with tongue firmly in cheek and some great set pieces.

Jackie Chan plays a police man assigned to track down kidnappers, unaware that his partner is also a villain. Blazing through incredible stunts, car chases and brutal rooftop brawls (not forgetting the heart attack victim brought back to life with jump leads and a revving engine!), we see Jackie the maverick cop in full throttle to bring this case to its final and bloody conclusion. With non of his normal comic routines this is the best pure thriller Chan has ever starred in.

DEATH PROOF (2007)

A scarred stuntman cruises the American hinterland in his specially adapted 'muscle' car praying on nubile young women who fail to take advantage of his less than smooth advances. All is going well until Mr Nutter picks on three hard as nails (but still nubile) stuntwomen and so begins a brutal chase along the byways and highways until Tarantino mercifully realises that he has no plot to speak of, a script that could have been adlibbed better, and just suddenly ends the film. Like a bizarre, mea

DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002)

Bond's back but, when he's captured by the North Koreans and held captive for over a year, his charmed existence would seem to be at an end. This being 007, however, he quickly recovers from the surprisingly down beat beginning and is soon dodging death in his own inimitably suave manner. In this adventure Bond is up against a ruthless terrorist and a duplicitous businessman and he is ably helped, and occasionally hindered, by two stunning but lethal female agents. Ice lairs and invisible cars g

Clint Eastwood plays an over-the-top fascist cop prepared to break all the rules in order to nail the "bad guys". Excellent entertainment, oft quoted by US politicians, and a warning to us liberals - keep the buggers under control.
