A 14-year-old girl has been raped and murdered and now watches from heaven as her family attempt to come to terms with what has happened. She watches her murderer and both wants to heal her family and stop him killing.
This slightly disappointing adaptation of Alice Sebold's novel is unusual and uneven, to some it will appear enigmatic and moving and to others underwhelming. It could have benefited from a slightly darker tone and less of the visual fantasy, but what isn't in question is t find out more...

A masterful adaptation of David Peace's Ellroy-esque noir trilogy. In '1974', the first chapter, a rookie journalist looks to solve the increasingly vexing case of a serial killer on the loose. A bleak vision of corruption in an emphatically isolated 'North', which raises the game for levels of darkness in TV drama. The latest in a long line of slick, Hollywood horrors that take as their inspiration the dirty, Grindhouse exploitation flicks of the 1970s. This time it's a prequel to the cult classic 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. Despite being marketed as an explanation of how Thomas Hewitt became the notorious 'Leatherface' 'The Beginning' is really about what all the other TCM's have been about; pretty young things being chased, abducted and brutally chopped up.
