Let's be honest, you either love or hate cinema's infamous enfant terrible, Lars von Trier. Those of you who love him you will find ‘Antichrist' his most entertaining and beautifully orchestrated work to date. Layered, witty and wryly tongue-in-cheek at every turn, ‘Antichrist' is brutal, honest and intelligent in both its observation of human emotion and in its exploration of a life riddled with love, loss and psychosis. In the immediate aftermath of her break up from Maxine, Persian, Bisexual Shirin refuses to accept their relationship is irrecoverable and sets about trying to win her back, with varying degrees of failure, whilst navigating the sociopolitical landscape that her life inhabits. Superbly written and directed by Desiree Akhavan - who also plays Shirin, well, superbly. So, all round superb, in my best Brooklyn accent. (Brett Atkinson)
