It's of the intrepid city adventurers up against in-bred redneck natives mould and the rednecks have the natural advantage, being both horribly cruel and at home in the woods. Perhaps THE classic film noir, made in a studio in 6 days on a minimal budget. Fatalistic narrator Neal is hitching west to catch up with his girlfriend when his lift drops dead on him. Savage is superb as the femme fatale who blackmails him into a scam. A must for any student or lover of film noir.

Lumet's complex and atmospheric thriller is based on a real event. Pacino is superb as the neurotic and incompetent gay bankrobber who needs the money from the robbery to finance his lover's sex change operation. The film's beauty is it's closely detailed psychological observation. Excellent.

Superb gangster drama, based on real events, with Pacino as the ageing, second-rate hood befriended by Depp's "Donnie", a cocky young FBI agent sent to infiltrate the Mob. But the boundaries become blurred as a genuine affection develops between the two. Moving, classy, and just outstanding.
