A John Grisham story directed by Robert Altman may sound like the answer to an insomniac's prayer, but it's really the script which lets down this otherwise agreeable legal thriller, the first that Grisham has penned just for Hollywood. Kenneth Branagh is a curious choice as the obligatary dishevelled, divorced but dedicated Southern lawyer who falls for worried waitress Embeth Davidtz, while the enigmatic Robert Duvall puts in an appearance as her bonkers barefoot father, who's stalking her.
