Liam is a young lad growing up on the none too rosy estates of Greenock in Scotland. His mum is in prison but due for release just in time for his sixteenth birthday and Liam is determined to provide them both with a home far away from the harsh realities of Greenock. What Liam needs is cash and the only options open to him certainly won't sit well in a court of law, and that's regardless of the increasing personal danger from disgruntled drug dealers. Sweet Sixteen is classic Ken Loach, both painfully funny and painfully heartfelt, a passionate film with some impassioned performances and a worthy winner of best British film at the 2002 indie awards.
