The Quatermass 1 is launched into space but having lost contact with earth it later crash lands with only one surviving astronaut, victor Carroon. Victor is being devoured by a microscopic organism, and as his compunctions become more murderous Professor Quatermass knows he must find the man while humanities fate is still in the balance. The Quatermass Experiment was Hammer Horrors first production and is based on the characters in the original BBC radio plays. Creepy, atmospheric and intensely over dramatic this is one of the classic British horror flicks and considerably less cheesy and exploitative than much of Hammer's later output.
