Desmond Doyle is a devoted father to his three children and when they are abandoned by his wife the man struggles to take care of the wee ones whilst still holding down his job. The Irish authorities and in particular the Catholic church have different ideas however, and when the children are removed from Doyle an epic and historic battle for custody unfolds. Evelyn is an undeniably sentimental story, but it is delivered with charm, style and indeed passion, all the more moving and uplifting for the fact that it is based on a true story.
