Digman is a control freak and a flake, though his two buddies are hardly any more qualified to cut it in the real world; one's already recovering from his first breakdown, and the other is an easy victim of his brother's relentless bullying. Together the three men decide to commit the biggest, indeed almost the only, heist of their lives, aided by the charming and suspiciously paternal local kingpin. These are lads doomed to disaster, your overriding feeling being that the more they sit back and let the world pass them by the better it will be for everyone, particularly them. Bottle Rocket was Wes Anderson's first feature length film and the quirky yet perceptive eye for comedy that was so apparent in Rushmore is very much in evidence; co-written with Owen Wilson the dialogue is witty and intelligent, while the characters and their relationships never fail to convince…however odd. Charming.
