Four men from the old code of the West eke out a living on the open range, driving cattle and trying to lay their own personal demons to rest. Unfortunately for the men their relative peace is brutally interrupted when cattle baron Denton Baxtor decides to make life untenable, a decision that all will come to regret as the cowboys pit their belief in honour and self determination against the all consuming dollar. Open Range is a visually ravishing film and a fine, sensitively nuanced study of a world and a way of life long gone. An impeccable return to form for Costner with a western that stands favourable comparison with both ‘Dances With Wolves' and ‘Unforgiven' .
