Pierre Brossard is a man with more skeletons in his closet than most, a known war criminal Pierre escaped the wrath of Nuremberg and has lived in uneventful anonymity with the help of the church for over forty years. A new war crimes investigation brings Brossard's quiet world to a shuddering halt and it is not only the authorities who want to see him brought to justice. Directed by Norman Jewison, taken from a novel by Brian Moore and starring an impressive British cast, The Statement is a curiously lack lustre thriller which plays more like an incoherent TV drama than it does a high brow movie.
