A disappointing remake from the brothers who we've come to expect a lot more from. The plot remains pretty much the same: A group of eccentric thieves rent lodgings to facilitate a daring heist, whilst keeping their landlady duped into thinking they're all just musicians practising their craft. The Coen's have transferred the setting from the sooty 50's London to a small rural Southern Fried community and the peim old lady from the original is replaced with a black God fearing, widow. The pleasures of this film are few and far between, the more memorable are Tom Hanks' garrulous crim, an interesting chase sequence involving the perils of irritable bowel syndrome and Marlon Wayans, who brings some much needed humanity to the film. Academic and heartless, but it passes the time.
