Mr Brown is a widow with seven wildly out of control children who are notching up a nanny a week. Into this whirlwind of chaos arrives Nanny McPhee, a woman of indiscernible age and a face like a boil, the children have finally met their match. It is a one-sided battle of wills, what with her magical powers and all, but while the children gradually reveal themselves as the delightful kids we knew them to be, financial pressure is in danger of splitting the family apart for ever. Adapted from the books by Christianna Brand, Nanny McPhee is a highly enjoyable old style fairytale very much in the vein of Lemony Snicket and…oh alright then, Mary Poppins.
