Harry is a small time crook and a big time loser, that is until he inadvertently, and comically, finds himself up for the lead in a Hollywood movie. Upon his arrival in LA Harry is hooked up with a real life Private Detective and sent off into the real world to learn his craft. But this is a vicious and murderous world, one that Harry is ill equipped to deal with, or indeed survive. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang breathes much needed new life into the buddy movie, it plays like a knowing modern noir thriller where the toughest man on the block is a slightly effete homosexual and despite society's deceitful cynicism, love is a simple thing. A beautifully-paced action thriller with a sharp, witty script and some standout performances, in particular by Val Kilmer. This is in all probability one of the most effortlessly enjoyable flicks of the year.
