Review
A gentle, insightful portrait of environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy and his painstaking method of using natural materials, usually sourced at the scene, to create three-dimensional works of staggering but often transient beauty; much of Goldsworthy's work slowly decomposes in the landscape that houses it or is eventually reclaimed by the sea. Despite occasional episodes of slightly smirksome art-speak, Goldsworthy's rationale and attitude toward his work (when he can articulate it) is refreshingly unpretentious, and the often beautiful, sensitive cinematography, complimented by Fred Frith's soundtrack, makes for an enthralling, enriching experience.
