A tired father driving his sleepy son home to his ex-wife accidentally kills a small boy in a hit-and-run accident. In the afflicted family friction is caused as the father of the dead child is determined to find the culprit and avenge the death while the mother wants to adjust to the new reality. Meanwhile the culpable driver is caught between fear of the punishment he will receive, primarily prison, the end of his career as a lawyer and losing his son, and his guilt.
