Bertram Pincus is a charmless, miserablist Brit abroad, misanthropically working as a dentist in New York City. Saved from the jaws of death during routine surgery Pincus finds himself able to see and speak to the dead, a skill not lost on the lost in limbo spirit community of Manhattan who flock to him in droves, especially Frank, who pushes Pinkus into action with a heartfelt plea to stop his widow from an ill-advised remarriage. What chance does the emotionally and socially stunted dentist have of convincing Frank's wife she's making a terrible mistake? 'Ghost Town', though patchy - the massed ghost scenes seem a bit pathetic- is a superior, quirky, rom-com, with some great dialogue, some touching moments and of course the dry humour of Ricky Gervais.
