It's 1964, St Nicholas in the Bronx; a vibrant, charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the school's strict customs which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius, the authoritarian Principal. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, an example being the arrival of the school's first black student, Donald Miller. When Sister James shares with the Principal her suspicion that Father Flynn's interest in Donald may not be entirely innocent, Sister Aloysius is galvanised into self-righteous action, determined to find a truth that fits her vision and remove the threat of the priest from her school. Now, without a shred of proof except her myiopic moral code, Sister Aloysius initiates a crusade that could tear asunder all she proports to hold dear. 'Doubt' is John Patrick Shanley's screen adaptation of his own play, a powerful tale about the fear of change, blind justice and misguided morality, driven by the intense performance of Glenn Close.
