Straight after starting his job as a bookkeeper at his Uncle Francisco's shop in Lisbon Macario falls madly in love with a young blonde, who lives across the road, and no sooner have they met than he wants to marry her. His uncle, totally opposed to the match, fires him and Macário departs for Cape Verde where he makes his fortune. But only once he’s won his uncle’s approval does the naive lover discover the singularity of his fiancée’s character.
‘Eccentricities of a Blonde-Haired Girl’, adapted from a short story by the Portuguese realist Eça de Queiróz, is a delightfully whimsical and idiosyncratically witty drama filmed by the centenarian Manoel de Oliveira.
