In the 1970s, Kathy, Tommy and Ruth attend Hailsham, a British boarding school where Miss Emily holds sway. When new teacher Miss Lucy arrives, she decides to share with the children their less than charmed fate. Over the years, the three, now adult, friends go their separate ways until they meet again in the 1990s, their destinies seemingly sealed.
