Smooth, but low end operator Mickey Haller is chauffeured around Los Angeles in his Lincoln, cutting deals and finding clients in his four wheeled office. Then he lands a doozy: a rich real-estate heir accused of the brutal assault of an escort. At first, the case looks like a money spinning breeze, but odd details start nagging at Haller until he recognizes an ugly connection to an earlier case, and with it the realisation that he's been set up. This is a movie that cruises on charm and smart casting. McConaughey, as a man whose glib polish is betrayed by a streak of doubt and morality is pitch perfect. Full of twists and turns, this is, like its central character, slick. An enjoyable Hollywood court room thriller, nothing new but nicely done.
