Chris Rushton reckons: "John Cusack plays revered american poet-type Edgar Allen Poe in this thriller set in Baltimore during the days leading up to Poe's mysterious death. Cusack continues his run of increasingly lacklustre roles in this specu-flick where he becomes embroiled in an attempt to capture a killer mimicking deaths Poe has written about in his macabre tales. 2 parts Basic Instinct, 1 part Se7en and 1 part Sherlock Holmes, this movie is definitely less than the sum of it's parts. Badly scripted, lazily edited and for the most part badly acted, the only redeeming points come in the form of Luke Evans's 'tougher than bullets' baltimore cop, some visually impressive deaths and a rather swanky adobe after effects credit sequence. Not really a fitting tribute to one of America's most misunderstood literary glitterati, maybe given time this film will ultimately be held up alongside Poe's work? Quoth the raven...... Nevermore."
