Scandalous in its day, yet perfect fodder for contemporary Hollywood, Brooks's Oscar-nominated drama was clearly ahead of its time. Glenn Ford plays the gentle, idealistic teacher fighting a losing battle against his delinquent, inner-city charges. A truly magnificent performance from Sidney Poitier.
