Hecht and MacArthur never wrote a better script than this madcap tale of a theatrical producer chasing after his absconding star, played by actor-drinker Barrymore, whose grandiloquent gestures and delivery edged toward self-parody. Lombard is beautiful and Hawks paces the film perfectly.
