Written, directed, produced and starring Melvin Van Peebles as the hustler who finds himself in trouble with the law. Produced independently by "Yeah Production" company in the 1970's, this film has become one of the most important black American films ever made. Peebles plays Sweetback, who aimlessly wanders through life on a pleasure-seeking mission. When he witnesses a couple of cops beating up a black political activist, Sweetback is forced to go on the run in order to survive and ultimately seeks revenge. It remains one of the highest ever grossing independent films in American Cinema and has become a cult classic. With a fantastic funky soundtrack this film is a must for all you groovers out there!
