Martin Short ("Three Fugitives", "Father of the Bride") plays an inept fairy godperson in this modern-day fairytale comedy. When he offers three wishes to New York eight-year-old Anabel, all she wants is for her widowed dad to pass an audition for a cruddy musical, but instead her new "friend" accidentally turns Pop into a bronze statue. This sets up the opportunity for Short to embark on much frenzied face-pulling along with local witch Kathleen Turner and her canine sidekick. Excellent special effects but the story and script is excruciatingly OTT.
