A gritty British drama, shot entirely in black and white, TwentyFourSeven tells, in flashback, the story of Alan Darcy and his attempts to restore a little pride to the disillusioned youth of a grim Midlands town. Bob Hoskins plays the well-meaning, middle-aged bleeding heart who encourages a bunch of assorted losers to join his boxing club, with a cast of unknowns as the "yoof" he's trying to save from themselves. Plodding in places, but still an admirable stab at tragi-comic social commentary from a 27 year old director who's definitely going places.
