Bill Paxton ("Twister") turns in a sterling performance as ex-soldier Paul Vann, whose nightmare years in Vietnam are brought to an abrupt end under accusations of subversion and womanising. But, four years later, Vann returns to the war zone as a civilian advisor, and becomes even more deeply involved in the increasingly violent hostilities. Worthy but hard-going.
