Travolta piled on a coupla dozen kilos (there's dedication for you) to play a convincing loser in this satirical seige caper. As recently redundant security guard Sam Bailey, he veritably shoots himself in the foot when he tries to reclaim his job by taking hostage a classful of kids visiting his former workplace, a museum. Pretty soon the whole thing's being broadcast on prime-time national TV, which is a stroke of luck for Max Brackett (Hoffman), a fading, slimeball TV journalist desperate to revive his flagging career.
