Rural Pennsylvania in the 1960's is the setting for this quirky drama. Ten year old Harriet longs to escape her dysfunctional family, and who could blame her, living in a theme motel with an alcoholic mother and promiscuous sister. Being abducted by aliens or digging all the way to China would be ideal, but all her escape plans are sadly scuppered. But when a woman breaks down outside the motel, Harriet finds a soulmate in her 30 year old mentally retarded son, Ricky. Low-key, stirring stuff.
