Hong Kong action goes to Hollywood, with Chow Yun-Fat (The Replacement Killers) as Nick Chen, an oriental Dirty Harry in charge of the NYPD's Asian Gang Unit. Chen's turf is run by the Triads, who are also topping up his income, so tribal war looks set to break out when new-kids-on-the-block, the Fukienese, arrive with their own drugs and hookers. Chen is further miffed to be paired with non-Asian rookie undercover cop Wallace (Mark Wahlberg - "Boogie Nights"). The reluctant partners' rocky relationship gets even more shaky when wily mobster Tong decides to get his claws into the idealistic young Wallace. Plenty of fast and furious action, plus a surprisingly subtle approach to the mismatched-buddies subplot.
