Review
A refinement of an already brilliant game and a proper challenge to your hand-eye coordination. Your goal is to pull off tricks and complete other tests using the obstacles and 'furniture' of your surroundings. The level of freedom is absolute and the controls are very, very tight. When you want to go somewhere, you go there. Tricks are not a battle of wills with the joy pad, just a joy and there are far more of them to pull off in this new edition as well as more room in which to pull them. As with the first Tony Hawk game the trick isn't just running around doing tricks- simply pulling off lots of vert tricks or individual grinds isn't going to earn you many points. The key to the game is linking together combinations of tricks. The reward enabling you to progress through the game is cash, which you collect by completing level goals and grabbing bonus icons scattered about the level. You spend that to upgrade all the things that progressed automatically in the first game, buying new decks and improvements to your stats, and even buying new tricks. There are two massive additions that set Tony Hawk 2 apart: the ability to create your own skateparks and your own custom skaters. Graphics; Lovely textures and smooth action. Sound; Turn it up! Controls; Deep joy. Gameplay; A Wipeout of skate games...
