The Hoover family are your typical suburban American demographic; dad's a failed inspirational speaker, grandpa's a coke snorting lay-about, the teenage son has embraced Nietzsche and abstains from the spoken word, the brother-in-law has just missed out on a successful suicide and the mum….well bless her, she really does try. What can I say? The Fellowship of the Ring is all right if you like that kind of Sword and Sorcery thing? Small, cute whee people being chased hither and thither by all kinds of monstrous beasties. Acts of courage and heroism that would have comic book superheroes running for the hills (not that they'd be safe there....oh no!). Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Tolkien's epic trilogy of good versus evil in a fantastical world long past is just about as spot on as you can imagine it was possible find out more...

While on this eight month travel one of the men begins his own journey from privileged ignorance to iconic revolutionary, the birth of Che Guevara has begun. Reiner's splendidly confident, witty teenage variation on 'It Happened One Night' focuses on two students hitching across the States through rainstorms, starvation and show tunes. He's a libidinous layabout, who inadvertently dropped in to college, and she's an uptight goody-goody who believes spontaneity has its time and its place. There's plenty of mileage in this pairing, even if the movie isn't going anywhere unexpected. It now looks like a dry run for 'When Harry Met Sally' and some of the find out more...

"Josephine Decker has created a new style of thriller that employs allegory, incorporates touches of David Lynch as well as Magritte -esque imagery. Decker's setting of a remote farm feels like a metaphor for what turns out to be hell. The raw and emotional (and yes, sometimes funny) dialog tells a story that can seem familiar at points but really is meant to keep you guessing and off balance. I really enjoyed how the undertones of this film came to life through her very deft contrast of the find out more...
